Mike Gillerman is what some would call “sarcastic.” Growing up tall, Jewish and poor in one of the richest cities in the country helped him develop a quick wit and cobra clutch like instincts (You Can’t Spell Sgt. Slaughter Without Laughter) which he used to quickly take the Phoenix comedy scene by storm. He performed regularly on the three biggest clubs in the state–Stand Up Live, The Tempe Improv, and Laffs Comedy Cafe; sharing the stage with headliners like David Spade, Kevin Farley, Taylor Williamson, Ritch Shynder and more. He was also a regular opener at Stand Up Scottsdale and The Speakeasy Comedy Lounge, working with Jeff Dye, Lisa Landry, Moshe Kasher, Brent Weinbach and Maronzio Vance among others.
In 2011 Mike won the first ever Joe’s Grotto Comedy Pen Competition and performed at the prestigious Crown Theater inside the Rio hotel in Las Vegas. In 2012, he performed in a two man show entitled “A Tale of Two Grindrs” with Tony Tripoli, head writer of ‘Fashion Police’. The two did an encore performance of the show in Phoenix when he worked with Tony again for his Dirty Sexy Funny tour.
In 2013 Mike did another tour of Vegas, performing two nights at the Shimmer Ballroom inside The Las Vegas Hilton. He was also a regular guest on The Rocking Comedy Show Radio program and had the distinct honor of being nationally published in “The Advocate” a leading LBGTQIA news magazine.
Now living in New York City, Mike can be found telling jokes throughout the 5 boroughs and Jersey. Whether it’s winning the Speakeasy Comedy Competition in Jersey City or producing his own show uptown–The Elephant Walk Comedy Show, Mike is all about expanding his brand of “where do I fit in comedy” to the people who can relate to it most.
When not telling jokes, Mike enjoys hating button fly jeans and using the word “hashtag” in conversation like it’s air quotes to prove how modern he is. Hashtag he’s Uber Hip.
