Comedy Central Greenlights Sudeikis Backed Comedy

Detroiters Comedy Central

Comedy Central is picking up Jason Sudeikis and Lorne Michaels produced series Detroiters. The project has been greenlit for a 10 episode run. Detroiters stars SNL writer Tim Robinson and Veep‘s Sam Richardson as Detroit natives seeking to renovate their city. Robinson and Richardson are both Detroit advertisers trying to bring back Detroit to the city it once was. The duo first performed together at Chicago’s Second City and evidence of their chemistry is shown behind the scenes as Detroiters is a project Richardson and Robinson co-created, co-wrote and executive produce with Joe Kelly and Zach Kanin.

Richardson, who joined Veep in Season 3 political staffer Richard Splett, was promoted to regular in Season 4. Richardson is expected to continue on the HBO comedy in addition to his commitment to Detroiters.

Both actors are experienced and have parlayed themselves into multiple spots on television and film. Richardson, who also has appeared in Comedy Central’s Drunk History, NBC’s The Office, and Arrested Development. Robinson had guest appearances on IFC’s Documentary Now! and Comedy Bang Bang. Richardson is also set to appear in the upcoming Ghostbusters.

Lorne Michael’s production company Broadway Video currently five cable series, Portlandia and Documentary Now! on IFC, Man Seeking Woman on FX and the upcoming Brothers In Atlanta on HBO and Detroiters on Comedy Central.
