1. What inspired you to start doing stand-up comedy, and how did your journey begin?

Mike Bramante: “My comedic idol is Larry David. I’ve always related to the absurdity and humor that can be found in everyday situations. Also, I never really had the desire to pursue a “normal” path. My mom used to drive me to school in 6th-8th grade, and she would ask me about my interest in all sorts of professions. She would attest to this, saying that I never had any interest in any of them. Christina: “I started stand-up while I was going to Carleton University for Journalism. A cute fraternity bro named Spicoli told me I should do it, so I did. The first time I performed (Yuk Yuk’s Ottawa), I had a million friends in the crowd, so I felt like that didn’t count. The second time was sold out in front of all strangers, and it was even better than the first. That’s when I knew I could do this. (Spicoli was just a nickname obvi, and now I feel bad I forget his real name.)” read more

We met up with stand-up comedian Jeffrey Leach at the Comedy Cellar in Greenwich Village right after his performance at a sold-out comedy show in NYC.

What other jobs did you do before starting stand-up comedy?

My parents instilled a work ethic in me from a young age and I’ve had a job to pay my way since I was 11 years old when I started a weekly paper route.

Since then I’ve produced live shows, worked in commercial radio, been the booker of major music venues, DJ’d at major festivals, and produced remixes for Island Records and Ministry of Sound, I was also a television presenter and actor prior to trying my hand at stand-up comedy 8 years ago. Now I pursue all things written, performative, and creative. read more

1. What other jobs did you do before starting as Stand UP comedian?

I was a cashier at a uniform store, movie theater usher, waitress at a deep-dish pizza place, marketing rep for a couple of dot coms, orientation leader for my college, restaurant hostess, private music teacher, dental receptionist, extra in TV shows, and a pen sales representative. Any job where you talk to new people every day is great for a comedian to exercise those muscles of coming up with banter. read more
