Twitter, Facebook and comedy fans around the world have talked about little else over the past 72 hours. Russell Peters, one of the kings of comedy in his own right, took an interview with NewsAsia and responded to the host’s repeated questions surrounding the recent decision by Comedy Central to bring Trevor Noah onboard as the host of The Daily Show.

What did Russell Peter say exactly?
You can check out the video below, but here is exactly what was stated in response to the host pressing the point that Russell Peters was passed over for the position at The Daily Show:
“I REALLY DIDN’T CARE ABOUT THE GIG…DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH WORK THAT IS? NO, I DIDN’T WANT THAT AT ALL.” THE REPORTER ASKED IF RUSSELL WAS JEALOUS BECAUSE “TREVOR IS CUTE AND SKINNER THAN YOU”.
“NO, THAT IS NOT, HE’S ALSO A THIEF BUT THAT’S IRRELEVANT…HE’S STOLEN MATERIAL FROM DAVID KAU, UH, HE’S STOLEN MATERIAL FROM MYSELF.”
Wow! If that isn’t calling someone out, I don’t know what is.
Was it unprofessional?
Was Russell Peters attempting to remain relevant and insert himself into the news cycle?
In my opinion, this was simply Russell Peters getting aggravated with a host who was clearly out of line. The host at NewsAsia has no excuse for insinuating that Russell Peters is fat and unattractive; thus being passed up for jobs like hosting a program on Comedy Central.
Look at the evidence against Trevor Noah:
The accusation that Trevor Noah was an unoriginal thief surfaced in 2013. Trevor was accused of stealing bits from a fellow South African comic, David Kau. (reported on Mediaite.com) Our research shows that Russell Peters remained silent up until this point, but it’s clear there’s long-standing friction between many in the world of comedy and Trevor Noah.
Will the controversy surrounding Trevor Noah subside anytime soon?
Racist tweets and accusations of theft by comedy’s biggest names do not help in calming the flames of viral social media outrage.
