Roy Wood, JR was born in Birmingham, Alabama and attended Florida A&M University, during which he worked as a morning news reporter for Tallahassee, Florida radio station Hot 105.7.

He began focusing on a career in comedy after filling in for the station’s in-house comedian, during which he would “stay and crack jokes during the rest of the show.”

He passed on his midterm tests to open for Tommy Davidson. Upon receiving a Bachelor of Science in broadcast journalism in 2001, Wood returned to his hometown and became the head writer/producer for the Buckwilde Morning Show (WBHJ 95.7 JAMZ) in Birmingham, a position he held until 2007 when he left the show over a salary dispute and relocated to Los Angeles. read more
