Al Lubel

Al+Lubel+Looking+Up

Al Lubel became a lawyer to please his mother and a comedian to please himself (which did not please his mother). After graduating from law school in Florida, Al moved to Los Angeles, passed the California Bar Exam on his first try and wouldn’t you know it, immediately began the practice of stand-up comedy. Lawyer by day and comedian by night, Al was doing justice to neither. At comedy clubs, the crowds would stare, in court, the juries would laugh. Al gradually began getting work on the road, soon becoming a full-time comic. “I realized I had to give up the practice of law when clients began calling me for legal advice at places like the St. Louis Funny Bone.” So, Al quit the law. This was a good decision, because within a year he won the $100,000 Grand Prize for comedy on Star Search. Doing the “The Tonight Show” was a childhood fantasy, so when Al heard that Johnny Carson was retiring, he auditioned and became one of the last comics to appear with Johnny. More recently, Al just made his fifth appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman. Even though comedy is his first love, Al admits to missing the practice of law. “I’d like to have one more trial, something serious like a murder trial because as my client’s fate hangs in the balance I’d like to see his reaction when I whisper in his ear…I’m a comedian!” read more

Akaash Singh

Akaash Singh

The fierce pride in India is real, although it’s worth noting Akaash’s middle school principal thought he was Mexican for all three years. Such was life growing up in suburban north Dallas. Home.

Akaash left home to help people. He wanted to be a doctor like his uncle and graduated pre-med from Austin College. Naturally, the next step was to move to Los Angeles and become a comedian.

There is no easy explanation for this leap of faith. It was an idea that always flickered in his mind. Even when he was young, Akaash saw comedy differently. He appreciated the nuances and broke it down to a science, fascinated by what worked and what didn’t. read more

Aiko Tanaka

THE BEGINNING
Aiko (“child of love” in Japanese) was born in Tokyo, Japan on December 13th. Her mother, Sue Tanaka, was a former swimsuit model while her father was a successful sales marketing manager for Britannica. With her mother’s influence, she began modeling at the age of 3 and appeared on numerous fashion catalogs and advertisements in Japan.

A STEP AWAY FROM MODELING
Although Aiko was very popular, her mother forced her to quit modeling. Sue felt that Aiko had not fully developed as a person yet and that she should have a chance to explore her other options. Aiko was enrolled in a wide range of classes, learning piano, cello, drum, Japanese flower arrangement, ballet, jazz dance, and painting, but she was more partial towards literature and poetry. It was after graduating high school when she decided that she wanted to be an actress, which prompted her to move to Boston all by herself. read more
