NYC Comedy Blog Listing for the last week of February

New York City is the mecca of stand up comedy in America and every night you can see hilarious comedians at all these top venues. It’s hard to choose the best shows to see this week but here is a good lineup for this week.

Here is a list of 10 great NYC comedy shows that are lined up for performance at NYC clubs this last week of February:

1. Early Evening Stand Up Extravaganza Broadway Comedy Club
On February 24, 2019, starting at 7:00 pm, there will be an Early Evening Stand Up Extravaganza where a lineup full of top headliners will be presented. In their listing, the comedy club describes them as the best comedians in New York. Also in the lineup will be special guests who are drawn from different parts of the country. The list includes comedians who have appeared in a number of shows on HBO, The Tonight Show, The Daily Show, and Comedy Central, among others. Some of the comedians include Rob Cantrell. Rob has appeared on NBC, HBO, FX, as well as Comedy Central, among others. He emerged in the top ten finalists during the first season of NBC’s Last Comic Standing, as well as performing on CBS’s The Late Show. His new stand up comedy can be streamed in different platforms; currently, it has been listened to more than 20,000 times per week on Pandora, Spotify, and iTunes. Apart from his sterling performances, Rob has also written on projects for Adult Swim, High Times, Comedy Central, Howard Stern, and more.
Christine Meehan-Berg. Christine is of the Food Network fame. She is a legend in standup comedy, an artist who has a good understanding of what the audience wants.
Harry Terjanian. Henry, winner of the Andy Kaufman award, will also be in the house as a special guest. A little background on who was Andy Kaufman can probably help give an idea of what to expect from a comedian who has won an award that celebrates him. Andy Kaufman was a veteran entertainer, a person who told jokes in an engaging way. He normally referred to himself as a “song and dance man.” His promise was to try and entertain the audience the best way he could. He performed on Saturday Night Live, which is where he actually started. Other shows where he has performed include Latka Gravas, Taxi, Late Night with David Letterman, and King Lawler, among other appearances. read more

I decided to see a comedy show in NYC.  We went to a show a show at the Broadway Comedy Club at the 9 PM show on a Friday. The energy in the room was filled with people from around the world. It was prime time the crowd was completely sold comedy show.

I’ve been living in the Netherlands for the past 4 years and was feeling a bit homesick and needed some comedy in my life. After the show, I sat down with Angela Cobb and we discuss all things comedy in the Big Apple.

What other jobs did you do before starting stand up comedy? I was a tour guide on a double-decker bus before starting a comedy.

How did you know you wanted to be a comedian? I loved comedy when I was little but didn’t start until I was 25, after I had been a juror in a murder trial. I realized that life was precious and I wanted to be a clown. If you weren’t doing comedy, what would you be doing? If I wasn’t a comedian I think human trafficking is an interesting field. Where are some of your favorite places to perform? I love The Stand NYC comedy club here in Murray Hill. I spent a long time learning how to do comedy at places like the Creek and the Cave and the Brokerage in Long Island. I love performing in New York. I like going on the road but I think New York is the best town for comedy. Who are some of your favorite up-and-comers in the comedy world?  I’m a big fan of Paris Sashay who is incredibly funny and Luke Mones who is as well. What’s the best advice you’ve ever gotten? The best advice I ever got was from my dad “Don’t overestimate your value” When did you feel like you were a pro comedian? When you stop working a day job, that’s a big thing. I don’t quite know if you feel like a pro but it’s a step in the right direction. How do you deal with hecklers? I try to address hecklers in a funny way. If you let them derail the set, they’ve won. What advice would you give your younger self? Advice to my younger self: a snack shouldn’t cost 48 dollars. How did you develop your style of stand up? My style of stand up I would describe as “intake at a psychiatric institution” What advice would you give your younger self? I developed my style by doing comedy everywhere I could. How would you describe your brand of comedy? I’m sort of a loud opinionated obnoxious cretin. So it was a natural process. Who were your influences growing up; both from the world of comedy and elsewhere? I wouldn’t use the word influence because he’s, in my opinion, one of the greatest of all time but my favorite comic is Patrice O’Neil.

I love to interview comedians, Can I ask what happens when you are in front of a crowd, and no one laughs? When I’m in front of a crowd and no one laughs I tend to point that out and hope that’s funny. read more
