Interview Esther Ku Stand UP Comedian at Dangerfields Comedy Club

Esther Ku

1. What other jobs did you do before starting stand up comedy?

I was a cashier at a uniform store, movie theater usher, waitress at a deep-dish pizza place, marketing rep for a couple of dot coms, orientation leader for my college, restaurant hostess, private music teacher, dental receptionist, extra in TV shows, and a pen sales representative. Any job where you talk to new people every day is great for a comedian to exercise those muscles of coming up with banter.

Interview Comedian Lawrence DeLoach at The Greenwich Village Comedy Club

Lawrence DeLoach

We met up with the hilarious stand-up comedian Lawrence DeLoach at his one of his show at Greenwich Village Comedy Club to talk to him about his stand up comedy and here is what he had to say.

1. What other jobs did you do before starting stand up comedy?

I worked for a cable company as a bill collector and that was the worst job ever.

2. How did you know you wanted to be a comedian?

I saw Lewis Black live and that made me want to try it out. I also made a joke to my friends about battle rappers that I saw Kevin Hart do on his 1st hour special and that made me realize that if this amazing comic and I had similar thoughts… I should become a comedian. read more

Interview : Jay & Eytan Comedians at New York Comedy Club

Jay & Eytan Comedy

Jay & Eytan – New York Comedy Club

We met up with Jay & Eytan right before their sold-out comedy show at the New York Comedy Club. We got to learn a little bit about them and their comedy.

1. What other jobs did you two do before starting stand up comedy?

We’ve done what feels like every job under the sun. Anywhere from serving, to call centers, to working on film and photosets. All of which drudge up horrible memories so we’ll move on to the next question.

2. How did you know you wanted to be a duo comedian?

We’ve been performing together in one way or another since 2006. We were part of a large sketch troupe in Toronto called “The Boom” and had a sold-out monthly show for 6 years running. Within that large troupe, we always wrote lots of scenes just the two of us, and have always had a chemistry on stage together. When we moved to New York in 2013 we slowly started building a new act that feels more like a two-man stand-up act, with an emphasis on acting out jokes as opposed to just telling them. It all happened pretty naturally. read more

Jimbo’s Bar and Grill Astoria, Esther Razzi NYC Comedy Show

Two Left Feet Comedy

Two Left Feet Comedy

Are you looking for plans for your Thursday night? Want to change up your routine of hitting up the bars and clubs and do something new and exciting? Come out and see a comedy show in your life! Be a part of the most humorous experience of a lifetime. Esther Razzi Comedy, the premier producer of comedy shows in the tri-state area, is putting on the show, Two Left Feet Comedy Night. Experience jumbo sized laughter at Jimbo’s Bar and Grill. The talent included in this lineup is so ridiculous that you will never second guess coming to this show! You will be amazed at the level of humor that these human specimens are able to produce, with a woman who looks like one of the golden girls, a guy called nine volts, a man renting an apartment from a 90-year-old stripper, and a woman who has her mother in law in the trunk of her car, these comedians are bound to be hilarious.  The headliner is Sharon Simon but you won’t need to obey the command Simon Says laugh for her set because her jokes are just that funny! The creator Esther Razzi comedy loves to riff about how she is self-conscious about her name, Esther and how she has experimented with a new name.  When Thursday night rolls around you’re always strained and tired from that rough work week. We’ve all been there. Your boss practically screamed at you, you weren’t able to meet any of the deadlines and you were passed over for that promotion. You’re pretty sure that your significant other is about to break up with you and what do you know the local pizza place just raised their prices. Life is hard! So what’s a better way to deal with all the stress in this thing called life than to see a comedy show. It’s really true that laughter is the best medicine for anything. After the comedy show, you’ll feel like a new person. Suddenly that headache you’ve had will wilt away and it won’t feel so awful that those jeans are just a little too tight. You’ll even feel like you can ask that crush out that you’ve been intimidated by. read more

Interviewed Stand Up Comedian Jeffrey Gurian at New York Comedy Club in the East Village

jeffrey-gurian

1. What other jobs did you do before starting stand up comedy?

Well, I tried getting a job as a waiter but there were none available so I went to Dental School and became a Cosmetic Dentist, and then later a Clinical Prof. at N.Y.U. in Oral Medicine and Oro-Facial Pain, while I was writing for big stars like Rodney Dangerfield, Joan Rivers, Jerry Lewis, Phil Hartman, George Wallace, Richard Belzer, and many Friars Club roasts.

2. How did you know you wanted to be a comedian?

My parents were typical Jewish parents from The Bronx, who at first refused to let me be a doctor. They said, “Don’t shame us that way!” I had to hide in my room to do my homework, and they would bang on the door and say “Come out. We know you’re studying in there. Stop it. You’ll be too successful!” I finally got them to give in. Actually, my grandfather owned a nightclub called “The Red Mill” and I was introduced to show biz at a very early age. My father was a big comedy fan and took me to see comedy movies when I was a kid, and at 12 years old I was already writing comedy for the amusement of my friends. read more
