Interview with William Stephenson

As a first time writer for this website, I found it appropriate and best way to kick off my inaugural post was with one of the people I’ve come to realize was there for one of my wife’s and I’s first experience at live comedy in New York City. It really is one of those moments that stick, that giddy and excited feeling someone gets as a child opening a present. That was my experience tugging on my wife’s jacket upstairs of the Comedy Cellar before their late show on a week night. Looking behind me at all the comedians that I recognized at “The Table” and looking up at the closed circuit television to see Chris Rock finishing up a set. I don’t remember every performer that night, but the MC for the evening definitely stuck. It was someone with this truly amazing energy, that of a ball busting family member. Taking shots at the audience while still remaining relatable. That was William Stephenson. It was really an honor to get to chat with him for a while, a true veteran in the New York City stand up community while remaining truly humble and doing it truly for the love of stand up and performing

My wife and I got to check out the show Saturday January 9th at Broadway Comedy Club where he closed out a great show with Chris Murphy as the MC, Russ Menev, Wali Collins, Tommy Gooch, Jerry Shack, and finally Will. Afterwards, we got a chance to step outside and have a conversation with Will where we found out this was only his second time performing at this club and has been a while performing outside of hosting.

Key Lewis is a very talented Stand-up Comedian. He has performed, and headlined in various top venues as well as numerous appearances on television. Key Lewis is very eclectic with his comedy, and is able to connect with any audience. He has also served in the Navy, not only has he served our country, he continues to serve other Veterans by performing live stand up comedy by bringing them together in unison through laughter, and alleviating stress. He recently toured as part of a comedy team who are all veterans, The GI’S Of Comedy, the producer of the GI’S of comedy is Thom Tran. They traveled as far as Jordan, Egypt, Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Italy, Japan, Korea. read more

If you’ve been living under a rock the past few days, you probably missed the beginning of World War III or something close to it. On November 14^th everything erupted in America, from a simple Facebook filter, where once again America was divided on how we should feel about ISIS’ attack on Paris. You were either a French Flag filterer or an Anti-French Flag filterer: which is completely different than being against France itself.

I’m tired of the slacktivism culture that Americans have adopted lately. This goes as far back as the ‘Wet Bucket Challenge’ where you were challenged to either donate to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, or if you didn’t donate money you would have to dump a bucket of ice water over your head. I’m pretty sure the ALS challenge is the main reason California is in a drought but I digress. Lately Americans have adopted a lot of slacktivist activities where they won’t attempt to contribute towards solving the issue but instead show their ‘support’ by either; putting a filter on their Facebook default or by posting a picture of themselves on Twitter or Instagram “outraged.” All these acts seem to indulge in you feeding your ego and making yourself feel as if you did something right without any actual solution to the serious situation. read more

The comedian Tracy Morgan is now starring in two new Foot Locker Commercials to promote Week of Greatness. The last couple of years the brand Foot Locker has tapped some of the biggest sports stars to promote it’s Week of Greatness ads with a flare of comedy.  Manny Paquiao, Kyrie Irving, James Harden, Derrick Rose and Tim Duncan, among others athletes have been featured in the Week of Greatness Commercials, However Foot locker decided to go a different route and get a real life comedian to bring in the laughs. read more

Shout out to everyone who didn’t post “#AllCitiesMatter.” Congratulations for taking the high road! For the past few days social media has been going crazy with terrorist attacks overseas and police brutality in America, which both have yet to be resolved. Just in case you don’t know what happened in the past few days, ISIS attacked a few cities one of which was Paris. In response to ISIS’ attack in Paris, France sent out their French jets and bombed Syria, one of ISIS’ main headquarters. After hearing about the attack a number of proud Americans praised France for their actions all over social media but here’s the thing that I’m confused about, a lot of those people praising the French Jets for bombing ISIS are the exact same people who would say #AllLivesMatter. If you’re confused by the connection, I’ll try my best to explain. For some time now unarmed African Americans have been gunned down by police on and off camera which resulted in the black community creating the hashtag #BlackLivesMatter but, in a record time, another group of people created a hashtag to rebuke black lives matter. Some supporters of the police department or just anti-BlackLivesMatter introduced a new hashtag #AllLivesMatter. Now, what’s confusing is that those who use All Lives Matter in a response to say no life is more valuable than any other and have been telling the Black Lives Matter Community “All lives matter” and every life is precious, were the same people to quickly celebrate France’s attack on Syria. It’s as hypocritical as when republicans are pro-life but insist we go to war all the time. read more

Big Jay Oakerson Launching Original Series with NBC Universal

Big Jay Oakerson is launching his own original series alongside NBC’s premiere of Seeso, a brand new comedy streaming service airing early next year. The show’s called: What’s Your Fucking Deal, and it’s where Oakerson will get the chance to highlight his brutally funny crowd work alongside co-host Ardie Fuqua.

Now, the show may be new, but the concept has been years in the making. Oakerson says him and Fuqua used to try and find new ways to entertain the crowd after a long night of jokes. The duo would grab the last set, one would stay on stage, the other would head into the crowd — and from there they would just talk, and along the way pick on some audience members they’d made friends with throughout the night. Oakerson and Fuqua went on to do the show at the Montreal Just for Laughs comedy festival a couple years back and impressed many. They later went on to pitch, and sell the show to NBC Universal, which will air the show exclusively on Seeso this coming January. read more

New York City local Matt Pavich won the cities most coveted comedy prize over the weekend. New York’s Funniest is a tradition known to skyrocket the winner to fame, and 2015 is expected to be no exception.

Pavich is already successful in his own rights. The comedian will be highlighted in season two of MTV2’s Joking Off which launches next month, and he’s also the star and co-creator of the series “The Neighborhood” — which snagged awards at the 2014 New York Television festival. Now that he’s snagged New York’s Funniest, many in the industry are waiting with anticipation to see what he accomplishes next. read more

Stand Up Comedian Amy Schumer had a show November 07 2015 in Maine show. She  recently apologized for her shortened stand up comedy show.  Schumer blames her inexperience with bigger venues and stated it was a “Rookie Mistake”

Schumer has grown into a huge stand up sensation in recent years. She recently started in Hollywood Blockbuster Trainwreck. The stand up comedian performed two sets in Portland at the Cross Insurance Area. The audience become upset after she only performed on the stage for 35 minutes before the opening act. read more
