shutdown wallThe owners of a New York Comedy Club is providing a free year of responses to federal employees influenced by the partial government shutdown.

Stand Up New York is offering a free year of membership to LaughPass for national workers furloughed or working without pay, that the New York Post reported Wednesday.

The pass, that lets holders unlimited comedy shows and other perks in greater than two dozen places nationally, is generally priced at $159.

“We are not solving world peace, but when we could put in a little joy to people’s lives by providing them access to some free and enjoyable comedy encounter,” Stand Up New York co-owner Dani Zoldan stated in an announcement. “I am thrilled and thankful that I am able to accomplish this.” read more

Michael Che comedy cellarSaturday Night Live cast member Michael Che has decided to weigh in on New York City’s public housing crisis by coordinating a comedy benefit show this Friday, where he’ll play Michelle Wolf and a”secret lineup of comics.” The 35-year-old comic, who went from selling his own T-shirt designs on the street to instructing himself stand-up humor, frequently jokes about gentrification, racism, and other issues plaguing the city.

Che grew up in the New York’s public housing system on the lower east side of Manhattan, where he passed time in places such as the Alfred Smith Houses, which had some of the highest crime rates in the 80s. Decades of overlooked deterioration in public housing has piled up into an estimated $32 billion in repairs, and the town is facing the possibility of a federal government takeover at the end of the month. read more

Josh Blue had won the Last Comic Standing on NBC’s reality show Last Comic Standing through its fourth year, which led May-August 2006. Blue has cerebral palsy, and a lot of his self-deprecating comedy is based on this.

Blue was born in Africa in Cameroon in which his dad, Walter Blue, was a professor of Romance languages in Hamline University instructing in an assignment. Blue climbed up in Saint Paul, Minnesota, also graduated from Como Park Senior High School at 1997. He started his career as a comic when looking for a creative writing degree at The Evergreen State College. read more

Protestors decided to show up and rally against  Louis C.K. arrival at the San Jose Improv on Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2019. A gentleman was even struck in the face by a punch, as the infamous comedian began his first West Coast comedy show since his career was hindered in the wake of sexual misconduct allegations.

The comedy clubs parent company gave an announcement saying they respect the protestors amendment of freedom of speech to protest, but also “respect Louis C.K.’s right to perform.” as it’s his career. read more

2008. The Laff House Comedy Club In Philadelphia Pa. I was 32 years old. I bombed, like a gentleman. Best wings in the city though.

Why did you pick NYC instead of Los Angeles or anywhere else?

I figured there would be more opportunities to get on stage, I couldn’t afford a plane ticket, and the pizza is way better.
