Jerry Seinfeld Takes on Obesity in America

Written by: Joseph Santiago

You gotta love Jerry Seinfeld. Not only did he make an incredible, award winning TV sit-com, Seinfeld, but he keeps on chugging in the world of stand-up. Bailing out Stephen Colbert’s dismal ratings on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Seinfeld took to the stage to do an epic monologue on virtually anything and everything happening in America today.

He took on the movement to fight for emergency weight-loss measures in the United States by asking “Do we really have an obesity problem in this country?” He posits that until we’re all smooshed together, coast to coast, like a jar of olives screaming for our own space, we really aren’t facing a national emergency. read more

Comedy Central has renewed Amy Schumer’s hit TV show, Inside Amy Schumer, for a fifth season in a row. This is exciting news for fans of Amy’s work and serves as the perfect start to a new year, after a 2015 that was so full of wins for the comedian from New York City.

Last year Schumer enjoyed critical acclaim for her movie Trainwreck, HBO’s Amy Schumer: Live at the Apollo and the fourth season of Comedy Central’s Inside Amy Schumer.

What Schumer has proved is that modern television isn’t about getting the highest ratings. It’s about who can become the most viral online. Jimmy Fallon rocketed the ratings of The Late Show by focusing on cleverly curated skits that could be uploaded later to YouTube. Schumer is clearly reading from the same playbook. read more

Comedians get a bum rap. Many are seen as cynics, while others seem to make light of serious situations. Every once in a blue moon, you end up with a truly amazing human being. Enter, John Stewart.

From his time as a student at William and Mary, to his meteoric rise to anchor The Daily Show on Comedy Central, John Stewart has always been a hardworking, standup guy (pun intended). He’s really a role-model to aspiring comics.

Making a Difference and Solving Tough Problems

After John Stewart left The Daily Show, some thought he would retire and live a life as a man who was finally free to follow his whims. Those who thought Jon Stewart would just shrink into the background are horribly mistaken. One thing that truly chafed the living legend of comedy was the gridlock in Washington. read more

The internet is a terrifying place to grow up. You can find pretty much anything and everything on it. It’s a place with its own separate language. I learned from a very young age that you can rule 34 a blue waffle while watching two girls enjoy a cup. A place that was once the wild west is now being reigned in ever so slightly. How many people can attest to being wary of someone using their computer? The trickle of fear fluttering up and down your body as someone searches through your history and finds something you might be embarrassed having looked at. Be honest, how many times have you googled “Average Dicks” out of curiosity? read more

POCKET200

Note From Me:

Another day of self-doubt and discontent. Another day of societal chaos. Another day of propaganda. Another day of world-wide-violence. Well, just another fucking Saturday. I’m sitting here in a touristy coffee shop, on the corner of MacDougal and Bleecker Street, with my good friend Nick Whitmer to discuss his life in the world of Standup Comedy. To set the mood for you: it’s freezing cold outside, the streets are cluster-fucked with obnoxious drunks and the barista is a fucking asshole. Ergo, this leaves a lot of room for optimism in this interview. Self-awareness is a bright disease and Nick has it. I’m excited to hear some genuine thoughts and opinions. Let us begin. read more

Christmas® is a wonderful time of year. Some people in warm climates have never heard of Christmas® and celebrate The Holidays because the bible says that if you can’t handle snow you can’t have a Christmas®. The festival of green and red colors drown out the gloom coming from the barrage of misery that is winter. The brutal cold is made bearable by the coming of Christmas®.You have to earn a Christmas® through blood, sweat, and egg nog. People across America are preparing by decking their halls, checking under their beds for monsters, and the American Woman (Homo Sapien Americanus Womanus) are preparing for their egg laying on Easter© by preparing the natural aphrodisiac of milk and cookies to lure Santa into impregnating them with his gifts. The presents are placed in the womb and then they gestate into an egg that is either hard boiled or Cadbury™ Creme, This Advent Calendar is Guaranteed To Get You Off Santa Naughty Listdepending on whatever it chooses to identify as. read more

If you’ve ever lived in or been to the Midwest, you’ve heard of the concept of the “Midwestern work ethic,” that hard work and perseverance will pay off in the long run.

There is a quiet humility that underscores the creativity that is breeding within Midwestern comedy.

On a Monday night in Chicago on Irving Park road, one of the seemingly thousands of open mics in the city, a small theater is filled with a laundry list of comedians outnumbering a Duggar family reunion. With notebooks and backpacks, its looks more like students attending seminar than comics ready to try out new material. The Hornet’s Nest Open Mic, a newer mic running late in Irving park mic is hosted by Josh Ejnes and John Eide. A few doors down a showcase is done and another open mic is starting at the High Hat, one of the comedians Sean White has finished his showcase performance and he is already heading over to do another mic at the Hornet’s Nest. read more
